Rachel's Website...take 2!

Hi everyone!

I've found this website http://www.americanjourneys.org/ which i hope all of you will find interesting.

Not only does this website give us an indepth view on Brittish settlement in 'The Americas' it also gives us eyewitness accounts of settlers right up from 1000AD.

Its a great help as everyone could use it as a primary source for essays and also gives us good scope to read around the subject.

I found this site by going onto google but using the advanced search settings to ensure i only got academic websites (eg. .ac.uk, .org, .edu) so what i came up with was pretty reasonable and accurate.

It might be a little difficult to understand but i hope everyone enjoys.

I agree that is very useful.
I especially felt that the timeline dating back to the first explorers was very well put together.
I found it interesting that Leif Ericson's report was very much like the report made by George Percy that; pleasingly, can also be found on this site!
It has such a wide range of information, spanning across hundreds of years, and that's what makes it such an interesting site, I feel.
The last article, dating back to 1844, a book by Goerge Catlin entitled "Catlin's North American Indian Portfolio", took my attention specifically. After getting past the flowery language, he makes some interesting points about the decline in the Native American population. The line that caught my eye was that they are- "rapidly travelling to extinction before the destructive waves of civilisation". I like this because it seems to be an appropriate evaluation of what the settlement ended up achieving, sadly.
Although I found it a pain to find my way around the site at times, I agree that it is an extremely interesting and valuable site.
Thanks Rachel!

I thought this was a great site, it has everything ranging from timelines to student information.
It was easy to read and very informative.
i found most intreating that it dated all the way back to AD1000. i didnt find anything on this web page useless, it all helps the needs for students and comes from the American Journal which is widely used in this course.
It is a very spread out web page but it was easy to find you way around as it was well signed.

I thought this website, though vague in some areas was very strong in others. Its depiction of early settlers was not just informative and moderately interesting like many educational websites, but actually inspired the desire to want to know about its content, not just the necessity of homework. Once I worked out exactly how to use the sight (I'm crap with computers) I found many srories like the first one The Saga of Eric The Red, to be gripping tales rather than boring essays. A good find by Rachel.

I found the website extreamly intresting and very simple to use. The avdanced search would be extreamly useful if you wanted to find something particlular. It was facsinating to read the early posts, to try and understand the first impression of the land which was to be 'America'. I found a couple particuly intresting that of the sarga of the red. It was amazing to see the distance travelled and his expericance's along the way
Thank you for the website
