Picture - Rachel

To say that the Europeans had a fascination with why the Natives walked around in the nude is an understatement. Looking at these pictures it is quite clear that they definitely found in absurd and also intriguing as to why they didn't wear clothes.

I chose this pic purely for that fact.

Although its not a picture created by DeBry, it is in the same style and most certainly mimicking his ideals and also his very typical Point of View.

I think this picture sums up attitudes and reflections of the discovery of the America we know today.

Hi Rachel and thanks for this. I am fascinated by your choice of image, and I feel you've put your finger on a crucial point; that contemporary American culture is comprised of an interesting paradox (one of many). On one hand, there is a notable focus on 'freedom' of expression/self-identity/action/etc and a loathing of censorship in general. Yet on the other hand, there is a general squeamishness regarding bodily functions and some forms of public nudity. Although nudist beaches are acceptable and celebrated, the idea of topless beaches are near-anathema. Let's chat more about this in our small group meeting tomorrow.
BTW, your chosen website is potentially a fantastic resource for all of us; thank you for that.
